The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Coalition of Organized Retail Employees (IAM CORE) announced on Friday that they have reached a tentative agreement with tech giant Apple.
This agreement focuses on significant improvements in work-life balance, pay raises, and job security for Apple retail workers.
Upcoming Vote on the Agreement:
Workers at the Towson, Maryland, Apple retail store will vote on the tentative agreement on August 6. This decision follows a vote in favor of authorizing a strike in May.
The proposed three-year agreement includes several notable provisions:
- Average Pay Raise: Workers will receive an average pay raise of 10%.
- Contract Employee Limits: The agreement limits the use of contracted employees.
- Severance Clause: A new severance clause will be introduced.
- Work-Life Balance Improvements: Measures to improve work-life balance are included.
- Transparency Rules: The agreement outlines rules for greater transparency.
- Maintenance of Current Benefits: All current benefits will be maintained.
- Future Bargaining: There is an agreement to bargain over any future additions to the benefits.
Historical Context:
In June 2022, Apple workers in Maryland voted to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union, becoming the tech giant’s first retail employees to unionize in the United States.
As of now, Apple has not responded to requests for comments on the tentative agreement.
