How a Journey of Resilience and Redemption Built a Thriving Roofing Empire
Ken Baden’s journey is one of courage, redemption, and relentless ambition. Today, as the CEO of Potomac Custom Remodeling (PCR Roofing), The Blue Collar Ballers Union, and Baden Consulting, Ken stands as a formidable figure in the business world. But his path wasn’t easy—it’s a story filled with hard-won lessons, inspiring comebacks, and an unwavering desire to give back.
The Early Years: A Promising Start Derailed
Ken graduated from Frostburg University in 2008 with a BS in Communications and a minor in advertising, poised to start a promising career in sales. But during his freshman year, a devastating car accident left him with a rebuilt leg and years of painkiller prescriptions that eventually led to addiction. Despite brief periods of sobriety, his life spiraled into substance abuse, leading to a felony conviction and a struggle to hold onto stability.
Throughout his sober moments, Ken found his way back to sales, specifically remodeling sales, but he wasn’t ready to admit he needed help. He fought to stay on track, yet continued to fall back into his addiction. In 2017, after years of battling and losing nearly everything—including his family, finances, and sense of self-worth—Ken hit a second rock bottom. This time, he found himself waking up behind a baseball dugout in Calvert County, MD, faced with a choice: end it all or seek help. Thankfully, he chose the latter.
The Road to Recovery
Ken’s journey to sobriety wasn’t linear, but this time he approached it differently. After a week in the hospital, he entered rehab with newfound determination. The following years were dedicated to rebuilding his life, one piece at a time. Living in a state-funded halfway house, he worked as a handyman, appreciating the value of the small things he once took for granted. When he eventually returned to remodeling sales, he did so with a renewed sense of gratitude.
In 2018, Ken’s dedication and experience in sales led him to the position of Vice President of Sales at a startup remodeling company. The experience taught him valuable lessons about integrity and business ethics, which ultimately inspired him to start his own consulting venture.
Building a Business and a Legacy
Partnering with a friend, Ken co-founded a remodeling company, experiencing both tremendous success and challenges in the partnership. Through it all, he gained the skills and confidence needed to go solo. In the years since, Ken has built PCR Roofing into a powerhouse, achieving platinum status with shingle manufacturer Owens Corning faster than any other company in the industry. Today, PCR Roofing operates successfully across Maryland, Delaware, and will soon expand into Virginia and Pennsylvania, with goals to be in four states by 2025.
This success didn’t come without personal growth. Thanks to a conversation with an old friend, now his wife, Becca, Ken avoided declaring bankruptcy and instead paid off his debts one by one. This decision, she advised, would allow him to start a business and rebuild his financial standing. The two reconnected, began dating, and eventually married, forming a partnership that continues to uplift and support Ken in his entrepreneurial journey.
Sharing Knowledge and Inspiring Others
Ken’s journey also includes a passion for supporting others in blue-collar industries. He founded The Blue Collar Ballers Union and hosts The Kitchen Table Podcast, a space where business conversations meet personal development. His podcast covers a wide range of topics, from blue-collar professions to sales strategies, fitness, and personal growth. Speaking on stages at events like the Blue Collar Ballers event, Ken uses his story to motivate and empower others facing similar challenges.
With Baden Consulting, Ken has leveraged his experience to help other businesses thrive. His first client, a solar company, reached seven figures within its first year after implementing Ken’s strategies. Now, Baden Consulting offers a unique 90-day program designed for solar and similar industries looking to expand into roofing and remodeling.
Looking Ahead: A Vision for Growth and Legacy
Ken’s aspirations extend beyond his current ventures. With plans to sell PCR Roofing by 2026, he envisions dedicating himself fully to consulting and public speaking, helping others build their businesses and sharing his story on larger platforms. His ultimate goal is to create generational wealth for his family and key team members while establishing himself as a full-time motivational speaker. Ken’s personal brand, YouTube channel, and The Kitchen Table Podcast continue to grow, spreading his message of resilience and success.
