Amazon.com’s cloud-computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has announced strategies to invest $11 billion in Indiana to construct data centers, marking the state’s largest capital investment.

The investment is predicted to develop at least 1,000 new jobs, further solidifying Amazon’s presence in the region.

Expansion Details:

The new data centers will be located in St. Joseph County in north-central Indiana and will serve as essential infrastructure for cloud computing and artificial intelligence applications.

While the exact number of data centers was not specified, the project underscores Amazon’s commitment to expanding its cloud infrastructure to meet growing demand.

Job Creation and Economic Impact:

The investment is poised to create significant economic opportunities for Indiana, promising 1,000 new jobs.

Amazon’s existing workforce in the state, comprising 26,000 full- and part-time employees, further emphasizes the company’s role as a key economic contributor.

State Incentives and Support:

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) will provide data center sales tax exemptions for eligible capital investments over a 50-year term to support Amazon’s expansion.

Performance-based incentives, including tax credits and training grants totaling up to $78.3 million, have also been offered to facilitate the project.

Government Response:

Governor Eric Holcomb expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting Amazon’s longstanding economic impact in Indiana.

The collaboration between Amazon and the state government underscores a shared commitment to fostering economic growth and innovation.
