Tesla halted some of its production lines in Texas and Nevada due to a global IT outage, Business Insider reported on Friday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The automaker sent some production employees home early at its Austin, Texas, and Sparks, Nevada, facilities during the night shift.

IT Outage Details:

Tesla informed its staff on Friday morning about the ongoing outage affecting Windows hosts, servers, laptops, and manufacturing devices.

According to an internal email reviewed by Reuters, this issue caused employees to encounter blue screens on their devices.

The tech outage, which affected industries from travel to finance, was attributed to a content update by CrowdStrike for Microsoft Windows hosts. Services began to return to normal after hours of disruption.

Elon Musk’s Response:

Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted on social media platform X, stating, “We just deleted CrowdStrike from all our systems, so no rollouts at all.”

He did not specify which of his companies took this action or detail the outage’s impact. Musk also commented that the outage caused significant disruptions to the automotive supply chain.

CrowdStrike’s Statement:

CrowdStrike acknowledged the issue and mentioned working with affected customers to address a defect found “in a single content update for Windows hosts.”

Tesla did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment on the situation. The incident highlights companies’ vulnerabilities with IT dependencies and the wide-reaching impacts of software issues on operations.
