BMW and its joint venture are recalling a total of 1.36 million vehicles in China owing to suspected Takata airbag issues.
German automaker BMW and its joint venture are recalling a total of 1.36 million cars in China due to potential risks associated with Takata airbags. This action comes following a statement from China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR).
The recall targets BMW vehicles that may have had steering wheel refits by owners, which could have involved faulty Takata airbags. The issue is linked to potential safety hazards, including the risk of serious or fatal injuries.
For affected vehicles, BMW will replace the driver’s front airbag free of charge to address and eliminate safety concerns.
In addition to the China recall, BMW also recalled 394,000 vehicles in the United States in July due to similar Takata airbag inflator issues.
BMW China has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding this recall.
