NHTSA has concluded its investigation into over 100,000 Tesla Model X vehicles following the automaker's recall to resolve seat belt issues.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has closed its investigation into over 100,000 Tesla Model X vehicles following the automaker’s recall to address front seat belt failures.

The probe’s conclusion was announced on Monday, with the regulator noting that it may take further action if necessary.

Background and Recall Details:

The NHTSA launched the investigation in March 2023 after receiving two complaints about front seat belt failures in around 50,000 Model X vehicles.

In response, Tesla filed a safety recall in July 2023, targeting the affected vehicles. Additionally, the company updated its procedures in June 2023, requiring the first-row seat belt to be disconnected and reconnected to its pretensioner anchor.

Tesla Remedial Actions:

Tesla’s recall and procedural updates were critical in addressing the safety concerns raised by the NHTSA.

The automaker’s proactive steps included recalling and making procedural changes to ensure the safety and reliability of the seat belts in the Model X vehicles.

Potential for Future Action:

While the NHTSA has closed the current investigation, it emphasized that it can take additional action if further issues arise. This closure does not preclude future probes or measures should new evidence or complaints surface.

Impact on Tesla:

This investigation and subsequent recall underscore Tesla’s responsiveness to safety concerns and regulatory scrutiny.

The closure of the probe can be seen as a positive step for the company, helping to reinforce its commitment to vehicle safety and regulatory compliance.
