NHTSA Investigates Ford SUV Recall Over Fuel Leak Concerns

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced an investigation into the recall of 42,652 Ford SUVs due to potential fuel leak issues, raising concerns about fire hazards. 

The recall covers specific models of the 2022 and 2023 Ford Bronco Sport and the 2022 Ford Escape.

Recall Background:

Ford initiated the recall for SUVs equipped with 1.5-liter engines in March, aiming to address the fuel leak risk associated with cracked fuel injectors. 

The remedy included an engine control software update and the installation of a drain tube to mitigate the issue.

NHTSA’s Inquiry:

The NHTSA’s recall query focuses on the adequacy of the previous remedy, as safety regulators raise concerns that the earlier recall did not involve the replacement of the cracked fuel injector.
