Porsche is accelerating its transition to electric vehicles (EVs) by advancing the end of production for certain internal-combustion models, according to Albrecht Reimold, the carmaker’s head of production, as reported in Automobilwoche.
SUV Model Macan:
- End of Production: The petrol-powered version of the Macan SUV for non-European markets will cease production by 2026, earlier than initially projected.
- Reason: Reimold stated, “The platform has reached the end of its cycle.”
- Future Focus: Post-production, Porsche will concentrate on electric versions of the Macan to further its sustainability agenda.
Sportscars Boxster and Cayman (718 Model Range):
- End of Production: Starting next year, combustion engine versions of the Boxster and Cayman sportscars, collectively known as the 718 model range, will no longer be produced.
- Electric Versions: Porsche is preparing to launch electric versions of these models next year.
- The production of petrol-powered versions of the 718 and Macan for European markets has already ceased.
Porsche Sustainability Agenda:
Despite a recent slump in EV demand, Porsche remains committed to its sustainability goals. Reimold emphasized that the success of the electric Macan should not be defined by a single number, indicating confidence in the long-term viability and market acceptance of their electric models.
By accelerating the shift to electric vehicles, Porsche is aligning with global sustainability trends and positioning itself as a forward-thinking leader in the automotive industry.
