For nearly two decades, Seattle guitarist, composer, and educator Ari Joshua has been building a unique music education community through The Music Factory, a Seattle music school dedicated to helping students grow through personalized music lessons, mentorship, and creative exploration.
Founded nearly 20 years ago, The Music Factory began with a simple philosophy: music lessons should do more than teach notes — they should build confidence, creativity, and lifelong skills.

Today, The Music Factory offers private music lessons in Seattle and online music lessons worldwide, helping students of all ages learn instruments, write music, and develop their artistic voice. With dozens of lessons happening daily, the sounds of violins, vocal warm-ups, guitar riffs, and jazz piano often fill the lobbies of their location in the Madison Valley neighborhood of Seattle.
Students come to The Music Factory for guitar lessons, piano lessons, voice lessons, drum lessons, songwriting coaching, and digital music production, guided by professional musicians who actively perform and record. The staff is carefully hand-picked based on their love for the arts and their passion for sharing that love with others. Many instructors have been with the school for years, and there is a good chance that as a student you will work with a teacher who has over a decade of mentorship experience.

A Seattle Music School Built by a Working Musician
The Music Factory was founded by Ari Joshua, a Seattle-based guitarist and composer who has spent decades performing, recording, and collaborating with musicians across jazz, improvisational, rock, and experimental music scenes.
Joshua has lived on both the East and West Coasts. He began playing music around the age of twelve and quickly accelerated, earning a place in the celebrated Roosevelt High School Jazz Band in Seattle. From there he earned a series of scholarships and attended the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where he studied with piano legend Kenny Barron and guitar master Ted Dunbar.
After a year at Rutgers, Joshua moved to New York City and continued his studies at The New School, where he was surrounded by an extraordinary generation of musicians including Robert Glasper, EJ Strickland, Marcus Strickland, Mike Rodriguez, Jumaane Smith, Damion Reid, and Mike Moreno, among many others.
Over the years, Joshua has collaborated with a wide range of internationally recognized artists and continues to release recordings through Music Factory Records, his independent label.
According to a feature published by Earshot Jazz, Joshua represents a rare combination of artist and educator — someone deeply committed to both performing and teaching. The publication described him as a “super musician, super educator,” highlighting the way his work bridges the professional music world and community-based music education.
Rather than separating these two paths, Joshua has always believed that teaching and performing strengthen one another.
Students benefit from learning directly from working musicians who bring real-world musical experience into every lesson — not just notes and scales, but musical insight and life skills that last a lifetime.

Personalized Music Lessons for Kids, Teens, and Adults
One of the reasons families choose The Music Factory is the school’s personalized teaching approach.
