Chinese Electric Vehicle Giant BYD’s Production Surpasses Tesla

Chinese electric automobile giant BYD announced that it produced over 3 million new energy vehicles in 2023, positioning itself to surpass Tesla’s production for a second straight year. As of Tuesday in Asia, Tesla had not released its full-year figures for 2023.

Tesla’s Production Figures and BYD’s Market Dominance:

As of the third quarter of 2023, Tesla reported producing 1.35 million cars, while BYD’s production for the same period exceeded 3 million. In 2022, BYD produced 1.88 million vehicles, surpassing Tesla’s 1.37 million.

Most of BYD’s vehicles are positioned in a lower price range than Tesla, focusing on hybrid models. Despite surpassing the 3 million mark, BYD’s annual sales slightly missed expectations.

BYD’s Sales Breakdown and Electric Market Competition:

BYD reported selling 3.02 million new energy vehicles in 2023, including 1.6 million battery-only passenger cars and 1.4 million hybrids. The electric vehicle market in China is becoming increasingly competitive, with various companies introducing new models to compete with established players.

BYD’s Overseas Expansion and European Presence:

BYD’s overseas sales in 2023 exceeded 242,000 new energy passenger vehicles, with plans to build a new production center in Hungary. The company aims to minimize risks in overseas markets and achieve success globally.
